According to a study published in the journal Science, taurine deficiency is the key driver of aging in mammals. Previous studies have shown that taurine supplements can slow the aging process in worms, mice, and monkeys.

The lead author of the study, Dr. Vijay Yadav, from Metabolic Research Laboratories at the National Institute of Immunology in New Delhi, noted that studies have shown that taurine supplement can increase the average lifespan by 12% and 10% in females and males, respectively.

He explained that his team conducted two studies to determine the link between the level of taurine and aging in humans. In the first study, the researchers looked at the relationship between taurine levels and approximately 50 health parameters in 12,000 European adults aged 60 years and above.

The findings of this study showed that people with higher taurine levels were healthier and had fewer cases of Type-2 diabetes, hypertension, lower obesity levels, and lower levels of inflammation.

The second study showed increased taurine levels with exercise in athletes, especially sprinters, endurance runners, and natural bodybuilders. They noted that some of the benefits of exercise may come from increased taurine levels.
